I have learned so much about the different kinds of cameras and file types. Getting a second try at doing a "Portrait of a Place" was great because I learned how to use the Sony HDV. The colors are so beautiful and checking out the camera gave me a chance to play with all of the different settings. I learned more about the iris and shutter speed. I didn't totally grasp the concept in 201, but now I have a much better understanding and I spent some time on my own learning the different settings and what they do.
Lighting to me is difficult if you're going for a certain look. It's easiest to me to just light everything up. Lights everywhere! I am having trouble with grasping lighting when it comes to the breakdown of it all. Lighting would definitely have to be my weakness. My strength so far is working with the camera and the settings. If I have a vision in mind, I fell like I now have the tools to make it happen.
So far, I am learning so much in this class and I really enjoy it. Me and my roommate had a great time with the portrait project. She is so photogenic and she was so cooperative with my direction. I love directing! I hope to someday be a director.

Where do I want to go? Wherever there's film!
Telecommunications and Film is most definitely the right major for me. Looking back I came to the realization that I have ALWAYS wanted to make films. I started making up ideas for film in the fourth grade and I’ve been hooked ever since. There were times in my life when I tried to pick a route that ensured a safe life and job security, but I love what I do and I love what I dream of doing. That is what’s important to me.
So the question is pressed, “What do I want to ultimately want to do with my future in film?” My answer is everything. I love all aspects of film so I will break down my favorite parts of the art and why they are my favorite.
I have always been an organized-minded person, and producing requires a great deal of organization. I took production management last semester and I absolutely loved it. I love organizing and planning. It would be my honor to someday produce something loved by many people. I love working with people, and a producer has to interact with many different kinds of people to make the whole production work.
I have wanted to be an actress my entire life. I know that sounds childish, but I STILL want to be an actress. I found in video production last summer that I love to direct as much as I love to act. I feel like I can be creative as an actor through directing. After the class, I did a skit for my sorority’s rush week. It involved several people without acting experience, and it involved scheduling. However, I had the time of my life because I was in my directing element.
I love being creative in as many ways that I can, and I believe producing and directing can encompass my love for people, organization, and creativity. That’s not to say that I wouldn’t do anything else because I love it all.
I am taking advanced videography because I want to expand my knowledge of the technology used to create films. I feel like I have the creative “filmmaker’s eye,” but I lack the technicality of direction. I want to learn how to transfer my creative image from an idea to something concrete. I love technology and I am really looking forward to learning more about equipment and different kinds of cinematography.

Pictures to Excite the Senses
This is The Band Perry. I love the overhead lighting because it creates a soft mood. It gives off a cozy, artistic feel. I like the mixture of the brown tones behind the small bulbs because of the contrast. The lights are not only lighting, they are part of the photograph and part of the art. I like that about this picture.
I really like the depth of this picture. I can see Harry helping a hurt Ron in the background while Harmione is casting a protection spell. The lighting is dim, which goes along well with the film. The lighting seems dim but it is also even, high key lighting. I like this combination.
This photo is from How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days. I like the natural light in this scene. There are other lights being used, but the combination of natural light is perfect because it is a sunny day. They are obviously happy here and are falling in love. Sunny high-key lighting works perfect for a romantic comedy.
I love the sunset on the beach. Most other people do too because the sun is our source of natural light and it is beautiful at sunset. I am all about natural and beautiful. I like this photo because it captures nature. I like the reflection the water gives off some of the light. I like the shadows on the sand. In this setting, it is still light outside but the sky is dimming. This makes for a romantic mood.
This is a painting by Monet. I love how there are so many shades of different colors. The sunlight through the trees brings demension to the painting by creating shadows in the garden. This painting is so beautiful and colorful. I could look at it all day.
This is the Opera House in Paris. The low lights scattered throughout the room recreate the way the building has been lit for years. I love this lighting because it sets the mood for theatre along with keeping the history of the building alive.
This photo is from The Help. The movie was set back in the 1960's when movies were not high quality like they are today. I love the high-key lighting with this set. All of the colors really pop out at you. I like the bold colors. The way this scene was lit and decorated makes me want to go back to the 60's.
This photo says one thing. Romance. The close up with dim lighting creates an intimacy between the characters, and between the audience and the characters. I like that her hand is highlighted as it gently touches his face and how her hairand face have a rim light. This picture is beautiful. Without the shadows and highlights, the wrong mood would be set.
This photo really excites me because I can see suspense in the eyes of the actors and in the colors of the poster. High key lighting is used here, but the grey brings in a sense of mystery and excitement. I love how there are so many ways you can use high-key lighting.
This photo says a lot to me because it represents a special moment and possibly the last moment between a couple. The photo is well lit, but because it is black and white, there is also a darkness to it because of the contrasting colors. I know black and white was all that was available when this was taken but it can still mean something. The light is shining on his face as they embrace which is romantic and gives a sense of hope that he will come back home after the war.
